How to Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine
Spring is the perfect time for a skincare reset as the weather warms up. Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home—it applies to your skincare products, habits, and tools, too! Just like we swap out our wardrobes for lighter, breezier fabrics, our skin also needs a seasonal transition. The rich, heavy creams and ultra-protective layers that got us through winter’s dry air may start to feel too thick, clogging, or unnecessary as temperatures rise. Because increased humidity, more sun exposure, and even seasonal allergies can all impact how your skin looks and feels, meaning it’s time to refresh, simplify, and realign your routine for the new season.
From decluttering expired products to switching to lightweight formulas and boosting your SPF game, a few small changes can make a big difference in how your skin adapts to the warmer months ahead.
Not sure where to start? Well, I’ve got you! Here are five steps to declutter, refresh, and upgrade your skincare routine so your skin can glow all season long!
Step 1: Declutter Expired & Unused Products
Check expiration dates – most skincare products have a shelf life of around 12-18 months, especially SPF, vitamin C, and actives ingredients (like salicylic acid and glycolic acid).
Toss anything old, separated, or with a weird smell.
Not using it? If you haven’t reached for it in 6 months, you probably won’t! So, get rid of it!
💡Pro Tip: Store products in a cool, dry place to extend their shelf life.
Step 2: Lighten Up Your Routine for Warmer Weather
Swap heavy creams for lightweight, gel-based moisturizers.
Increase hydration with hydrating serums (like hyaluronic acid).
Switch to a gentle, non-stripping cleanser because sweat and oil production increase in spring.
💡Product Suggestion: Glymed’s Daily Repair Cream (this links to my Glymed store, so you can see all they have to offer! - reach out to me with any questions)
Step 3: Upgrade Your SPF Game
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable – more sun exposure means higher UV risk!
Look for SPF 30+ with broad-spectrum protection.
Reapply every 2 hours (especially if spending time outdoors).
💡 Pro Tip: Use a lightweight sunscreen that won’t clog pores under makeup.
Step 4: Exfoliate Smarter, Not Harder
Use a gentle chemical exfoliant 1-2x a week to brighten dull skin.
Avoid harsh scrubs that can cause micro-tears.
Lactic Acid is great for sensitive skin!
💡 Pro Tip: Skip the harsh (physical) scrubs! While physical exfoliants may seem satisfying, they can cause micro-tears and irritation, making skin more prone to redness and sensitivity.
Step 5: Refresh Your Beauty Tools & Skincare Habits
Wash your makeup brushes and beauty sponges – they harbor bacteria!
Swap out old loofahs (bi-weekly), washcloths (every 3-6 months), and use only 100% silk pillowcases (clean skin starts here!).
Drink more water with electrolytes — your skin needs hydration from the inside out!
💡 Pro Tip: Set a reminder to wash brushes with a daily brush cleaner and a weekly deep clean to prevent breakouts.
Until Next Time,
